Cannabis is one of the most abused drugs in Pakistan. It has numbers of derivates that are abused in different numbers. According to the report of UNODC (2013), almost 40 lakh users are in Pakistan (39 lakh men and 1 lakh women).

Cannabis, also called marijuana, is a drug that comes from the cannabis sativa (hemp plant). It may also be called pot, weed, or hash. Cannabis can be smoked, baked into food and eaten, or made into a tea you can drink. It can make you feel high, happy, or excited. The effects may start right away and last for 3 to 4 hours depending on whether you smoke or eat cannabis.

The tolrance for cannabis increases with time... That means with passing time to get the same high or intoxication the dosage of cannabis will have to be increased. 

Cannabis abuse is a pattern of use that causes physical or mental problems:

The use of cannabis can have the following effects:

  • Trouble thinking: memory and problem solving
  • Slow reaction time
  • Shrink memory
  • Increase heart rate by 20% to 100%  up to three hours (may result in a heart attack)
  • Reduced and Worsened quality of life
  • Damaged lungs
  • Suicidal thoughts/ Ideation
